U.S. Pork… Sustainable for

People, Pigs and the Planet

Between 1960 and 2015, the amount of resources

used to produce a pound of pork decreased.

America’s pig farmers have built on

generations of improvement to make

drastic leaps in sustainability.

This comprehensive life-cycle assessment (LCA) project with the University of Arkansas used the top LCA methodology available today.

On average, U.S. pig farmers showed progress in sustainability over the 55-year period on a per pound/kilogram of live weight pig produced.

This report was generated by using full-rigor, LCA methods and the Pig Production Environmental Footprint Calculator developed jointly by University of Arkansas, the USDA, and National Pork Board to apply specifically to pigs.
